Snow and Adverse Weather Policy

In the event of disruption caused by heavy snow or bad weather the prime concern of the academy must always be the safety of pupils and staff.
The decision to close the academy will take into account the safety of all our pupils and staff, some of whom travel a great distance to the academy.
We will always endeavour to open the academy in the event of bad weather, as long as it is safe to do so. The decision will be made by the Principal in consultation with the Head of St Andrews School as well as our additional lets.
If the academy is open in snow or bad weather the decision as to whether or not to send a pupil to the academy, however, must be at the discretion of the parent, taking into account factors such as local road conditions. The academy appreciates that during bad weather children may arrive later than normal; parents should endeavour to contact the academy to let them know they are on their way if likely to be delayed.
In the event of bad weather, parents should check to see if the academy is open before travelling to the site and there are a number of ways to confirm whether the academy is open or closed.

1. Look on the academy website – a message will be posted on the home page once a decision has been made
2. Request to join the Susan Roberts Community Page which is a closed group on Facebook so you will receive alerts when news is posted.
3. Follow us on Twitter again alerts will come to your phone
4. Text us on 07766 761267

If the academy is operating, but extreme weather develops during the day, we will aim to remain open until the end of the normal academy day. However this is not always possible when roads are becoming treacherous. In which case parents will be contacted via email or phone and asked to collect their children as soon as possible. Under these conditions we will take verbal permission for their child/children to be collected by a nominated adult.
It may be necessary to ask children to bring packed lunches to avoid buying food in town if they are with us for a long day.
Finally as per point 11 of our Rules and conditions of Enrolment should it prove necessary to close the academy or cancel classes on account of the above fees will not be compensated or refunded, as this will be beyond our control.
