Lorna Sanders

Dr Lorna Sanders

Dr Lorna Sanders trained at the London College of Dance and Drama. She has an MA in Dance Studies from the University of Surrey where she also completed doctoral research in education and analytical frameworks, entitled Dance Education Renewed: a theoretical reconceptualisation of the subject of dance in education. Lorna is currently Assistant Principal Examiner for GCSE. She is a part time tutor and lecturer on the Postgraduate Diploma/MA course in Choreography at the Fontys Academy in Holland and is Research Assistant on The Body Project, a multidisciplinary project, at the School of Oriental and African Studies, part of the University of London. She delivers in-service training courses for teachers on behalf of numerous organisations and in particular for the National Resource for Dance. Lorna was involved in the production of gifted and talented recognition criteria and differentiation procedures, for use in schools nationally as the dance contribution in the Arts Guidance Document published by DfES and was on the Dance Links advisory panel for the DCMS. Currently she is assisting with the Royal Ballet School’s Primary Steps education outreach programme in Dagenham and for the Youth Sport Trust she is evaluating the latest Gifted and Talented projects run by the Centres for Advanced Training across the UK. Lorna has written many resources for teachers and has also been involved in tutoring PGCE students. She has worked within higher education in the UK and internationally.
Lorna has written numerous articles for the Dancing Times and is also the author of two books on Akram Khan’s Rush and Henri Oguike’s Front Line. She is a member of the review panel for a referred academic journal, Research in Dance Education. She is a founding Trustee of Woking Dance Space and also a Trustee of Bird College Foundation. Two new articles commissioned by the Akram Khan Company are published on their website. She will be editing a new book for the 10th Anniversary of the founding of this internationally renowned dance company.
